On February 1st, 2004 the Log Inventory Management System (LIMS) software went live at the Woodland mill of Domtar’s Maine operation. This LIMS implementation was simultaneously developed alongside the Wisconsin operation’s version since many of the features were the same.
The major difference between the 2 systems is Maine operations use of an external SAP financial system to deal with weekly Accounts Payable check generation. 3LOG staff has been working with Domtar to ensure that LIMS and SAP will work together in a seamless fashion. The goal is to create a fully automated process for AP generation where very little user intervention is required.
LIMS and WeighWiz applications have helped to automate processes that Domtar used to take much longer time to complete. Increasing task efficiency has allowed Domtar’s foresters to concentrate on acquiring woodlands resources instead of using the time on paperwork and the monotonous task of re-entering data into multiple systems.
