RICHMOND, B.C. – Weyerhaeuser’s implementation of CRAFT has rolled out as planned.
CRAFT, the Canadian Roundwood and Fiber Tracking, is the new raw material system being implemented by Canadian Forestlands and BC Coastal Timberlands in all of their operations.
The goal of CRAFT is to standardize and streamline policies, procedures, and systems about contract management, wood settlement / contractor payment, data collection, and all other related aspects. 3LOG LIMS and WeighWiz are the two distinct modules for providing real-time management software solutions to this new system.
CRAFT Project Benefits:
- Increased availability and quality of information for management decision making
- Increased focus on efficient use of resources
- Better comparability of results across Canada
- Increased focus on managing by business processes vs. functions
- Increased use of standardized processes
- Reduced dependency on customized systems
Currently, all mills of Weyerhaeuser Canada in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and New Brunswick are live with LIMS, LabWiz, and WeighWiz. With only one system and one database across Canada, the company can apply LIMS to manage its product supply chain across the entire firm without any geographic boundary. It reduces administrative costs since the system administrator will not have to handle different software installation, maintenance, and update procedures. The company will save significant amounts of time and the effort dealing with the synchronization of product update releases from various applications.
The advantage of using one system and one database across Canada is that it allows each user to access data from different regions at one local desktop. LIMS provides data security, integrity and accessibility with an easy-to-use interface for regional and national management analysis.
The implementation has already commenced and is scheduled to be completed by early 2005.
