NEWS RELEASE

Stora Enso North America has selected 3LOG’s Log Inventory Management System-LIMS

February 2002

Stora Enso North America (SENA), has selected LIMS from 3LOG Systems of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, for it’s new wood procurement system, which will manage the fibre requirements for SENA’s six pulp and paper mills in the Mid-West, Biron - WI, Duluth - MN, Kimberly - WI, Niagara - WI, Stevens Point - WI and Whiting - WI. SENA also operates a mill in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia - Canada, where LIMS and the INFORM GIS will be implemented as an integrated system (Please see Stora Enso Nova Scotia press release).

SENA was formed from the Consolidated Paper Company operations, which were purchased and organized as Stora Enso North America in August of 2000. Stora Enso is one of the world's leading forest product companies and was formed in June 2, 1998 when Stora a Swedish company founded in the 13th century, and Enso a Finish company founded in the 19th Century jointly merged their operations. It has operations in Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden, Germany and some other European countries, with more than 45,000 employees and holds a world-leading position in magazine papers, newsprint, fine paper packaging board, and timber products.

SENA personnel will use LIMS to manage the needs of a Just-In-Time wood inventory operation. SENA requires a system that can store intelligence regarding round wood supplies, issue wood procurement contracts with the appropriate approvals, manage bids, schedule deliveries for the right specie at the right time and dynamically allocate the wood to a production schedule based on each individual mill’s daily requirements.
LIMS will be accessed over SENA’s wide area network at 6 mills and many remote landings located in the Midwest, and also various corporate and home offices. The users are many administrative and operational personnel, including ten purchase wood buyers who manage wood supply and service contracts for a variety of different species. Round wood is purchased from many small-scale family forest holdings, larger private wood lots, and county or state timber suppliers, and is also sold to outside companies using timber produced from company land (Approximately 330,000 acres).

LIMS documents the chain of custody for the origins of fibre from the production source, and is a key requirement for any Stora Enso operation. LIMS also provides a modular structure that allows easy set-up of security and access for the required job functions of scale-house operations, forecasting, land management, fibre procurement, contract management, inventory, payment and financial control.

SENA chose 3LOG Systems because of the clear vision that was provided to SENA personnel of how the system could be quickly implemented without major development costs. For SENA, LIMS is a winning strategy, as it has been for many forest companies throughout North America.
